Position Overview:
Our client is looking for an experienced Sr. Back End Engineer capable of building microservices hosted in the cloud. Our client is expanding its footprint in AWS and developing new services using serverless technologies where possible to add features to their Training Club, a subscription service that provides structured on-demand and live training videos with instructors. Users can book their training sessions and review past activity. While the systems powering the app work, we’re interested in improving user engagement with more features, insights, and improvements to existing experiences. Along the way, we’ll be building a stronger data pipeline to guide further efforts.
Our client develops and delivers world-class training products and workout programs for everyone: from fitness professionals and enthusiasts of any age and ability to top-name athletes in the NFL, NBA, MLB, and UFC, as well as our servicemen and women in every branch of the US military.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop microservices in AWS that power the Training Club
- Collaborate with data scientists to provide insights into how users behave
- Validate your work and prevent legacy code by writing automated tests and service documentation
- Collaborate with your peers in scrum ceremonies
- Design solutions to problems facing our internal and external customers
- Perform and submit code reviews
- Identify ways to detect and respond to system failures with Datadog and other tools
- Respond to system outages as necessary
Required Experience & Skills:
- Minimum 5 years working as a software engineer
- Minimum 2 years developing back-end services
- Experience designing and building REST APIs
- Experience with NoSQL databases
- Experience developing with Python
- Experience with a testing framework like pytest or behave
- Experience with Git
- Experience working with AWS
- Experience writing infrastructure as code (Terraform, Cloudformation, Pulumi, etc.)
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience working with GitHub Actions or other CI/CD technologies
- Experience collaborating with data engineering teams
- Experience working with serverless technologies and design patterns
- Experience working with event-driven systems
- Experience working with personal data, how to recognize it, and how to manage it securely
- Experience with Typescript
- Experience with React or other modern front-end JavaScript frameworks
