Job summary
- Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by mechanical, chemical, physical agents or ergonomic factors. Conduct inspections, educate and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals
Summary of essential job functions
- Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers’ health or safety.
- Investigate accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
- Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
- Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations and implement permanent corrective action as required.
- Conduct required annual safety training requirements with the affected workforce to meet federal, state and/or local guidelines.
- Maintain Hazardous Communications Program, Emergency Action Plan, Lock Out/Tag Out, Contractor Safety, Hearing Conservation Program, etc…
- Collaborate with engineers or physicians to institute control or remedial measures for hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
- Use positive employee relations to effectively interact with all individuals in the organization, as well as customers, vendors and the public.
- Manage Workers’ Compensation program.
- Maintain the plant’s first-aid program. Provides first aid treatment of on-the-job illness or injury. Sees that properly trained persons are available to render first –aid on other shifts. Maintains first aid treatment records, reports and standing orders.
- Develop and maintain a diverse and effective Safety Committee.
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
- Authority to stop production in the event unsafe parts or conditions appear.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the immediate Supervisor and/or Manager, which may be outside the scope of responsibilities noted above.
Minimum requirements
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive and increasing experience in the Industrial Hygiene field preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Preferred Bachelors’ degree in Industrial Hygiene or equivalent professional experience (COSS – Certified Occupational Safety Specialist).
- Meet or exceed the job requirements of the job.
- Identified candidates must be able to work overtime (daily, weekends and holidays).
