Job Title: Director of Patient Financial Services

Position Summary
Responsible for directing Patient Financial Services to include, Billing, Collections, Customer Service and Cash posting for Professional Billing (PB). Coordinate the daily activities related to the planning, implementing, and maintaining all functions pertinent to the PB Patient Financial Service areas. Responsible for continued improvement in staff through education, training, and positive enforcement of appropriate working practices.
- Oversees the Patient Financial Services Professional Billing (PB) department, recruiting and maintaining a professional, highly skilled, and diverse management team and front-linestaff.
- Fosters a results-focused culture of accountability, inclusivity, and creativity.
- Assists with the preparation of the annual PB budget.
- Maintains current industry knowledge, as well as comprehensive knowledge of PB payer contracts, serving as a subject matter expert.
- Ensures compliance with all federal, state, local-government, and private-industry mandates, including HIPAA and PCI regulations.
- Ensures the PB team’s adherence to organizational and Patient Financial Services policies and procedures. Creates and updates policies and procedures as necessary.
- Analyzes, interprets, and summarizes pertinent revenue cycle reports/data components and monitors performance against key PB indicators.
- Optimizes cash collections by creating, monitoring, and updating work plans, strategies, and solutions toward improved performance trends.
- Identifies issues, risks, barriers, and opportunities for improvement related to the PB team.
- Develops and maintains trusted partnerships with principal stakeholders, as well as with payers’ representatives, to achieve goals and identify new opportunities.
- Facilitates analysis of revenue cycle processes related to insured, PB AR to identify areas for improvement and works with business teams to optimize processes, as necessary.
- Leads by example and shares knowledge and experiences with the team.
- Supervises, trains, develops, directs, and motivates subordinate supervisors/managers on the PB team.
- Empowers others, delegates appropriately, and improves employee engagement.
- Prepares annual statement of goals and objectives for the PB team, including the method for measuring/tracking the success of those goals/objectives, in collaboration with subordinates.
- Ensures the PB team is appropriately equipped with knowledge, instructions, and expectations to successfully meet individual and unit goals.
- Proactively communicates with the PB team, keeping them informed on a regular basis, or as needed, including providing updates regarding policy changes.
- Conducts regular team meetings to disseminate departmental and/or organizational information.
- Provides a venue for the team to communicate any escalations or concerns and/or pose questions or request clarification.
- Holds PB team accountable for meeting and exceeding quality standards and goals, with a focus on both the consumers’ experiences, as well as stakeholders’ needs.
- Develops subordinate staff’s professional and technical skill sets, and collaborates with the training team, as appropriate, to develop ongoing training and education materials.
- Ensures the PB team is appropriately staffed, by being neither over- nor under-staffed.
- Creates and fosters succession planning throughout the PB team.

- Bachelor’s Degree
- Master’s Degree Preferred
- 10 years of recent and relevant work experience
- 8 years supervisory experience
- Epic computer system experience preferred
