Position Overview:

The Substation Network Engineer will design, configure, and maintain network infrastructure using Palo Alto firewalls and Cisco network devices. The role ensures efficient network communication and security, working closely with Project Managers and Protection & Control (P&C) teams to deliver projects on time. This position supports substation builds, including routers and switches, collaborating within a fast-paced, multi-project environment.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

•          Design, configure, and maintain network infrastructure using Palo Alto firewalls to meet organizational needs for provisioning and troubleshooting.

•          Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot network devices, including Cisco routers, switches, and wireless systems, as well as Palo Alto firewalls to any of our existing 1000+ sites or new sites.

•          Implement and optimize routing protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP to ensure efficient and secure network communication.

•          Monitor and analyze network performance using diagnostic tools, addressing potential issues proactively.

•          Maintain detailed network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and incident reports.

•          Comply with the change management process

•          Ensure compliance with organizational policies and business unit standards.

•          Communicate effectively and collaborate with Project Managers (PMs) and Protection & Control (P&C) teams to deliver projects on time and within scope.

•          Design scripts/playbooks to aid in the build of new network equipment 

Technical Skill Qualifications:

•          Palo Alto Firewall Configuration and Troubleshooting

•          Cisco Routers and Switches Configuration

•          Strong understanding and experience with Routing Protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP)

•          Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

•          CCNA would be a plus but not required.
