Automation Test Engineer / Workday

Position Summary
The Automation Test Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated testing solutions supporting enterprise Workday integrations and business processes. This role focuses on end-to-end automation testing across APIs, integrations, and enterprise workflows using Tricentis Tosca.
This position requires a consultative automation engineer who can identify high-value automation opportunities, define scalable testing strategies, and partner closely with development and platform teams to improve quality, reliability, and delivery efficiency.
About the Team
The Workday Integrations team partners with enterprise technology and business stakeholders to support integrations between Workday and downstream HR, payroll, finance, and enterprise platforms.
In this role, you will collaborate with developers, analysts, and platform teams to automate complex workflows, validate enterprise integrations, and enhance overall testing strategy and coverage.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and test cases using Tricentis Tosca for web, API, and integration workflows.
- Build and execute end-to-end automated tests supporting Workday business processes, including HCM, Payroll, Finance, and Benefits integrations.
- Validate and automate Workday integration patterns including Workday Studio, EIB, REST/SOAP APIs, and file-based or event-driven integrations.
- Develop automation for data flows between Workday and downstream enterprise systems, including ERP, HRIS, payroll, finance, and reporting platforms.
- Collaborate with developers, analysts, and platform teams to define automation strategy, improve test coverage, and identify the best automation candidates.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and scheduled execution frameworks.
- Analyze failures, troubleshoot integration issues, and provide detailed defect reporting and root cause analysis.
- Ensure automation solutions align with security, compliance, and data integrity requirements.
Primary Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in Quality Assurance or Automation Engineering with a focus on API and integration testing.
- Strong experience with Tricentis Tosca, including model-based automation, API scanning, execution, reporting, and test data management.
- Experience automating integration workflows and end-to-end enterprise processes beyond UI testing.
- Strong understanding of API testing concepts including REST, SOAP, JSON, XML, OAuth, and certificate-based authentication.
- Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar tools.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and root cause analysis skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work across technical and business teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent professional experience.
Desired Skills
- Experience testing or supporting Workday modules and Workday integration patterns.
- Familiarity with AWS-hosted integrations and cloud-based architectures.
- Strong SQL and data validation skills.
- Understanding of enterprise integrations, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems.
- Ability to independently identify and prioritize automation opportunities.
- Strong consultative mindset with the ability to influence automation strategy and improve testability across teams.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
