Mid-Senior Platform/API Engineer

Job Type: Contract to hire (6 month conversion)
Location: Remote
 

We’re partnering with a leading travel organization to hire a Platform/API Engineer to help build and scale a modern loyalty platform supporting millions of customers and a growing network of external partners.

This is not a traditional backend development role. We’re looking for an engineer who enjoys designing APIs, solving complex integration challenges, and collaborating on architecture just as much as writing code.

What You’ll Do

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable REST APIs and backend microservices.

• Build and support integrations with third-party partners, internal applications, and cloud services.

• Participate in architecture discussions, API design, and technical decision-making.

• Design database schemas and backend services supporting high-volume applications.

• Collaborate closely with Product, DevOps, QA, and Engineering teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

• Troubleshoot production integrations and improve platform reliability and performance.

• Help implement authentication, authorization, and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) capabilities.

• Contribute to cloud-native applications running in Azure using modern DevOps practices.

Required Qualifications

• 4+ years of backend software engineering experience.

• Experience designing and building REST APIs and backend services.

• Strong understanding of microservices and distributed system architecture.

• Experience integrating with third-party APIs or enterprise platforms.

• Experience with Node.js and TypeScript (NestJS preferred) or another modern backend language such as Java or C#.

• Experience developing applications in Azure, AWS, or GCP (Azure preferred).

• Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical decisions and collaborate across engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Azure experience, including Cosmos DB and Azure Service Bus.

• Kubernetes and containerized application development.

• Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or OpenTofu.

• CI/CD and DevOps experience.

• Experience implementing OAuth, JWT, RBAC, or other authentication and authorization frameworks.

• Experience supporting production systems and troubleshooting distributed applications.
