Job Title: Database Administrator
Job Location: Tallahassee, FL (On-Site)
Job Type: Contract (Thru 6/30/27 with likelihood of extension)
Overview
We’re seeking an Advanced Database Administrator (DBA) to support enterprise database platforms and ensure database architectures, schemas, and data structures align with established standards and security requirements. This role focuses on day-to-day production operations, performance monitoring/tuning, database design, and supporting application enhancements and rewrites across multiple database technologies, including relational and spatial/GIS databases.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily operational database administration activities in a production enterprise environment.
- Plan, design, implement, and support database structures (schemas, tables, indexes, storage, etc.) to meet system requirements and standards.
- Conduct database performance monitoring and tuning, including troubleshooting and remediation of production issues.
- Assist in the design, development, optimization, and amendment of database schemas and related structures.
- Develop and maintain DBA procedures and technical documentation.
- Perform SQL code reviews and help enforce database standards and best practices.
- Support database work for application enhancements and rewrites, partnering with project and data stakeholders.
- Provide training/mentoring to other technical staff as needed.
- Contribute to an overall data architecture approach that supports organizational needs and security standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- 5+ years of combined experience in database administration across required platforms.
- Strong experience with:
- Microsoft SQL Server (2012 and above) (expert level)
- Oracle (10g and above)
- GIS/spatial databases, including knowledge of ESRI SDE geodatabases
- Demonstrated ability to independently analyze, evaluate, and resolve complex enterprise production database issues.
- Strong understanding of relational database principles, design, and operational best practices.
- Experience preparing complex database specifications and designing relational databases.
- Ability to interpret and communicate technical information clearly both verbally and in writing.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Experience with Azure SQL
- Experience with AWS database/SQL tools
- Experience managing ArcGIS for Server

- Strong customer service mindset and professionalism with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
