Role: Contract Web Developer
Location: Hybrid in Salt Lake City, UT
Type: Contract
Rate: $65–$80/hour
Job Description:
Seeking a highly motivated Contract Web Developer to join a dedicated Agile Software Applications Development Team building mission-critical applications for public sector stakeholders. This is a Java-based web development role within a DevOps environment, focused on new feature development, system maintenance, and technical enhancements.
Responsibilities:

Participate as a member of Agile development team(s), including planning, estimating, development, collaboration, and sprint review activities.

Develop and maintain web-based applications and services using Java 11/21, Spring Boot, REST APIs, HTML, CSS3, JavaScript/TypeScript, Angular, and related technologies.

Execute development tasks such as UI development, backend services, database integrations, microservices, authentication, security features, reports, mobile interfaces, and emerging tech.

Utilize tracking tools to document progress, bugs, and feature requests.

Follow established Software Development Methodology (SDM) and best practices for security, performance, and maintainability.

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and technical mentoring.

Ensure all deliverables are tested and meet quality, security, and performance requirements before handoff.
Required Skills & Experience:
-
Strong experience in Java 11/21, Spring Boot 2.6/3, JDBC, and REST APIs.

Proficiency in front-end development using Angular, HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript.

Familiar with distributed systems, microservices architecture, and modern DevOps practices.

Experience with tools like JPA, PWAs, and web standards.

Ability to handle database connections and work with relational databases like Informix or SQL.

Familiarity with older technologies (e.g., Java 8, Struts, Hibernate, jQuery) for legacy maintenance.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience working in collaborative Agile environments.
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience converting Figma/Material Design into Angular components.

Background in government, criminal justice, or mission-critical system development.

Experience with Business Intelligence tools and mobile development.
-
Relevant certifications in computer science or software development.
Working Model:
-
Reports to a designated IT lead, architect, or manager.
-
Embedded in Agile Release Train (ART) structure with a DevOps team.

Works collaboratively under the functional direction of an Information Analyst or Scrum Master.
