Job Title: System Database Administrator (DBA)
Location: Remote (Charlotte Preferred)
Duration: 6+months with possible extension or conversion


Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented System Database Administrator (DBA) to manage, maintain, and optimize our database infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the performance, security, and reliability of enterprise databases across development, testing, and production environments. This role will also support backup and recovery processes, performance tuning, and database deployments, ensuring high availability and minimal downtime.


Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain database systems (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL)

  • Monitor database performance and tune systems for optimal efficiency and reliability

  • Manage user access, roles, and permissions in compliance with security policies

  • Implement and test backup and disaster recovery solutions

  • Apply patches and updates, including version upgrades

  • Create and maintain documentation for database architecture, processes, and procedures

  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues promptly

  • Support development and operations teams with database design and query optimization

  • Ensure compliance with data governance and data integrity standards

  • Participate in on-call rotation for database support and maintenance


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)

  • 3–7 years of experience as a Database Administrator

  • Proficiency with one or more major RDBMS platforms (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL)

  • Strong experience in performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization

  • Knowledge of backup strategies and high availability configurations (e.g., Always On, replication, clustering)

  • Familiarity with security best practices related to data access and storage

  • Experience with monitoring tools and scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, T-SQL, PL/SQL)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and documentation abilities
