Job Title: Database Administrator
Location: onsite 3 months then Hybrid (Davis County)
Job-Type: Contract to hire
Salary Range: $65-$70 per hour
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) with a minimum of 5 years of professional database administration experience to support enterprise database environments. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Oracle, IBM DB2, PostgreSQL, and SQL and be responsible for the availability, reliability, security, and performance of critical databases.
This role will work closely with application developers, infrastructure teams, architects, and business stakeholders to support production and development environments, troubleshoot database issues, and ensure database systems are operating efficiently and securely.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, monitor, maintain, and support enterprise database environments.
- Provide database administration for Oracle, IBM DB2, and PostgreSQL platforms.
- Write, troubleshoot, and optimize complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, and scripts.
- Perform database installations, upgrades, patching, configuration, and maintenance.
- Monitor database health, availability, capacity, and resource utilization.
- Manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
- Support high availability, replication, and database recovery solutions.
- Troubleshoot database-related application and production issues.
- Work with development teams on database design, schema changes, deployments, and data-related issues.
- Manage database security, user accounts, roles, permissions, and access controls.
- Perform data migrations and database upgrades as needed.
- Develop and maintain database documentation, standards, and operational procedures.
- Participate in production support and incident resolution.
- Monitor database capacity and plan for future growth.
- Assist with disaster recovery testing and business continuity initiatives.
- Automate routine database administration and maintenance tasks where appropriate.
- Follow change management, security, and IT operational standards.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional experience as a Database Administrator or in a closely related database engineering role.
- Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Database.
- Strong hands-on experience with DB2.
- Strong hands-on experience with PostgreSQL.
- Advanced knowledge of SQL.
- Experience with database backup, recovery, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Experience managing database users, roles, permissions, and security.
- Experience supporting production database environments.
- Strong understanding of relational database concepts and architecture.
- Experience working with application development and infrastructure teams.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in an enterprise environment.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have Qualifications
- Experience with database performance tuning and optimization.
- Oracle performance monitoring and tuning.
- SQL query optimization and execution-plan analysis.
- DB2 performance monitoring and tuning.
- PostgreSQL performance optimization.
- Experience with high availability and replication technologies.
- Experience with database automation and scripting.
- Experience with PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages.
- Experience in financial services, banking, or other highly regulated environments.
- Experience with cloud database platforms.
- Experience supporting large, high-volume transactional databases.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related field preferred. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
