AI Software Developer III (Contract) — Patient Experience (AI-Enabled Scheduling)

Overview

We are hiring two AI Software Developer III contractors to support a Patient Experience team within an Institute of Innovation and Artificial Intelligence (IAI). The primary focus is building AI-driven solutions that automate and standardize patient scheduling across the organization. The team delivers patient-facing experiences across voice/phone, SMS, chat, and email channels, and also supports related patient experience and care navigation use cases—such as AI tools that help answer patient questions before and after procedures.

This is not a machine learning research role. You will not be building foundational AI models from scratch. This is a software engineering role with an AI focus, centered on delivering production-ready applications, including agentic AI solutions, voice agents, integrations, APIs, and end-to-end implementations.

Required Skills

• 5+ years of professional software engineering or application development experience.
• Experience developing and integrating APIs.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and source control repositories.
• Experience working in cloud environments.
• Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and end-to-end application delivery.
• Hands-on experience with AI applications, agentic AI concepts, and tool-calling frameworks.
• Strong coding ability and willingness to complete live coding exercises during interviews.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot and solve technical problems.
• Background must be primarily software engineering/application development (data analytics/data science-only profiles are not a fit).

Nice to Have Skills

• Backend and/or full-stack development experience.
• Experience building agentic AI applications and AI-powered workflows.
• Experience creating voice agents and conversational AI solutions.
• Python experience (preferred).
• Cloud experience with Azure (preferred).

Preferred Education and Experience

• Senior-level, hands-on engineering experience aligned to a Level III scope (5+ years required).
• Demonstrated experience delivering production deployments and working with application architecture.

Other Requirements

• A live coding assessment is part of the process.
• AI assistance is prohibited during interviews.
• Healthcare experience is preferred but not required; Epic experience is a significant advantage and can meaningfully increase candidate competitiveness.
