Work Model: Primarily remote with 2 on-site days per month. Initial 3–6 weeks require 4–5 days per week on-site for onboarding and training.
Summary: We’re looking for three Junior Java Engineers to join a high-energy Product & Integration Engineering team. This group builds custom travel-related applications and integrations in a fast-paced environment. You’ll start with maintenance work to learn the ecosystem and quickly progress to new development projects.
Responsibilities:
- Write and maintain Java code (approximately 90% hands-on development).
- Build and support synchronous REST services (and some asynchronous services).
- Develop integration patterns between multiple systems and ensure reliable, scalable connections.
- Implement unit tests, maintain test coverage, and perform performance testing on REST services.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and the manager to learn architecture, design principles, and best practices.
Required Skills & Experience:
- 3–5 years of professional Java development experience (able to read and write clean, simple Java code: variables, loops, methods, classes, packages).
- Experience developing synchronous integration patterns/services and some asynchronous services.
- Synchronous = one system calls another and waits for a response (like a phone call).
- Asynchronous = send a message/request and process later (like a text).
- Understanding of:
- Integration Patterns – common ways systems talk to each other.
- Service Architecture – how services are designed and why.
- Service API Security – securing APIs against unauthorized access.
- Building REST Services – designing, building, and securing REST APIs in Java.
- 2+ years of hands-on unit testing experience:
- Ability to understand requirements and write unit tests verifying services/functions meet requirements.
- Maintain strong test coverage across the codebase.
- At least 1 year of cloud experience (GCP preferred, AWS or Azure also acceptable).
- 2+ years working in an enterprise environment (1,000+ employees).
- Stable work history (no more than two employers if ~3 years’ experience, no more than three if ~5 years).
Nice to Have:
- Real-time API experience.
- Prior experience building REST services from the ground up.
Who Thrives Here
- Self-motivated engineers who deliver quickly and independently.
- Curious learners eager to grow under senior engineer mentorship.
- Comfortable starting with maintenance work before shifting to new feature development.
- Excited to come on-site initially to meet the team and learn the systems.
