Job Title: Epic Beaker Operations Manager – Laboratory Informatics
Type: Contract-to-Hire (6 months)
Work Location: Remote (with monthly travel)
Time Zone Flexibility: Open to any U.S. time zone; must be available for 3–4 EST-based meetings per week
Travel Requirement: Approximately 1 week per month to Atlanta, GA
Work Authorization: U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder required
Overview:
We’re seeking an experienced Epic Beaker Operations Manager to lead a high-impact team supporting laboratory informatics across a complex healthcare environment. This individual will act as the critical link between lab operations and IT, overseeing strategy, performance, and optimization across Epic Beaker, middleware tools, blood bank systems, and point-of-care integrations.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Management & Operational Oversight (30%)
- Manage and coach a team of 15 Epic Beaker analysts, PMs, and trainers
- Oversee daily task prioritization, resource planning, and KPI tracking
- Drive performance improvements and staff development initiatives
Strategic Alignment Between Lab Ops & IT (25%)
- Translate clinical lab strategies into actionable LIS initiatives
- Represent lab IT needs in governance and leadership meetings
- Ensure strategic alignment between technical teams and clinical leadership
Epic Beaker Optimization (20%)
- Provide high-level guidance on Beaker workflows, optimizations, and configuration strategy (no hands-on build required)
- Lead issue resolution and system performance evaluations
- Collaborate with analyzer and middleware teams for ongoing stability
System Integration & Middleware Oversight (15%)
- Oversee LIS middleware and analyzer integrations (e.g., via Data Innovations or similar tools)
- Ensure seamless data flow between analyzers, Epic, and POC systems
- Validate data integrity and resolve interface issues
Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance (10%)
- Ensure all systems and processes meet regulatory, documentation, and QA standards
- Maintain integration documentation and workflow transparency
- Monitor trends and emerging technologies in POC and blood bank informatics
Required Experience & Skills:
Epic Beaker Leadership
- 4+ years managing Beaker teams in a healthcare system
- Strong understanding of LIS workflows and operational alignment
Blood Bank Informatics
- 3+ years working with tools like Hemosonics, WellSky, MAK Systems, Clinisys, etc.
- Familiar with transfusion workflows and regulatory compliance
POC Testing System Experience
- 3+ years with platforms like RALS, Telcor, Roche Cobas, Siemens RAPIDComm, etc.
- Understand POC-to-LIS integration processes and challenges
Middleware & Integration
- 3+ years with middleware such as Data Innovations, Epic Bridges, SoftLab, etc.
- Experienced in supporting analyzer-to-LIS integrations
Lab–IT Collaboration
- Strong cross-functional skills aligning technical execution with clinical goals
- Able to participate in governance, track performance metrics, and report outcomes
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a clinical, laboratory, or IT-related field
- Clinical lab or informatics operations background strongly preferred
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills
