Job Title: Data Engineer 
Location: Remote (Preferred: Charlotte, NC)
Duration: 6+ Months. Possible extension or conversion

Position Summary

We are seeking four experienced Data Engineers to play a key role in modernizing a legacy SQL Server data layer for a large-scale, cloud migration initiative. This role involves refactoring complex stored procedures, optimizing data access patterns, and preparing systems for compatibility with modern, containerized services and Aurora PostgreSQL.

The ideal candidate has strong expertise in SQL Server performance tuning, deep experience with ORMs such as EF Core or Dapper, and a forward-looking approach to scalable, cloud-native data engineering.

Key Responsibilities

• Refactor over 100+ stored procedures to improve performance, maintainability, and scalability

• Optimize high-throughput workloads running on Microsoft SQL Server

• Build repository layers and support ORM implementations such as EF Core and Dapper

• Translate temporary table and batch-processing logic into in-memory or cached alternatives

• Prepare legacy data access logic for eventual migration to Aurora PostgreSQL

• Collaborate with backend development teams to define efficient, reusable data access patterns

• Monitor, benchmark, and tune critical database queries to meet performance SLAs

Qualifications & Skills

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with SQL Server, including advanced query tuning and indexing strategies

• Proven expertise in analyzing and optimizing stored procedures and execution plans

• Practical experience with modern ORMs (e.g., EF Core, Dapper)

• Strong understanding of normalized schema design, transactional integrity, and data modeling

• Familiarity with PostgreSQL or Aurora PostgreSQL is a strong plus

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced Agile environment, working collaboratively across cross-functional teams

• Excellent analytical and communication skills with a strong attention to detail
