IT Director, Clinical Applications 

The IT Director, Clinical Applications is a highly visible position that will collaborate with clinical stakeholders across the organization. Under the general direction of the Vice President/CIO, this role performs a wide variety of duties including planning, directing, and evaluating staff in implementing various clinically focused healthcare information technologies. The Director is responsible for working with departmental leaders to identify and/or implement improved work processes and increased efficiency. This role interacts with management across the organization to develop actionable projects and activities in support of clinical application technologies.

Highlights:

  • Opportunity to take a solid healthcare technology foundation and develop strategies to take it to the next level.

  • Responsibility for a team of 35 staff supporting Epic, Enterprise Imaging, and other critical clinical applications.

  • Reports to the CIO/VP of Information Systems.

  • Involvement in developing a multiyear plan to drive innovation, value, and return on investment in clinical information technology applications, with a focus on patient care and operational efficiency.

Key Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of best practices for healthcare information technology and system analysis.

  • Skill in leading, guiding, and evaluating performance and providing training to improve performance.

  • Ability to direct and manage multiple projects, with knowledge of project management processes and standards.

  • Ability to interact with users, administration, physicians, and staff.

  • Proven knowledge of budget development, contract negotiations, vendor management, and cost analysis for new projects.

  • Current clinical licensure/certification or healthcare technology certifications (Epic Clinical) and/or project management certifications are highly desirable.

Education

  • Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Health, Science, Business, or a high school diploma with an additional 4 years of related work experience.

  • Preferred: Master’s degree in Information Technology, Health, Science, Business, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licensure/Certification

  • Required: None.

  • Preferred: Current clinical licensure or certification (OT, PT, SLP, RN, RPH, RT, ARRT, etc.).

  • Preferred: Relevant Information Technology certification(s) in Epic Clinical Applications and/or Project Management Certifications.

Experience

  • Required: 5 years of progressively responsible experience in information technology or 9 years without a bachelor’s degree. At least 3 years in a manager or functional leadership role.

  • Preferred: 5 years serving in a director or manager role in IT management or healthcare operational leadership.
