Company Overview:

The Senior Data Analyst will play a key role in building and maintaining enterprise reporting and analytics capabilities. This individual will design and develop interactive Power BI dashboards, model and transform data for reporting, ensure semantic and data model consistency, and collaborate with stakeholders across Finance, Operations, and Product to drive data-informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Financial / Operational Reporting & Oversight

  • Develop and maintain financial and operational dashboards (e.g., P&L, cash flow, AR/AP, forecasts vs. actuals).

  • Partner with Finance and Accounting to validate assumptions, ensure GAAP/regulatory alignment, and support audits and close cycles.

  • Monitor data quality, detect anomalies, and enforce reconciliation procedures.

  • Provide ad-hoc and scenario-based analyses for leadership.

Semantic Layer / Upstream Modeling

  • Design and maintain a centralized semantic or metrics layer (e.g., Power BI shared datasets, Tabular models).

  • Define and document business logic, hierarchies, relationships, and aggregation standards.

  • Collaborate with Data Engineering to align upstream data pipelines and warehouse inputs.

  • Enable and govern self-service reporting based on the semantic model.

Front-End / BI Development (Power BI Focus)

  • Build well-designed, maintainable, high-performance Power BI reports and dashboards (desktop, service, paginated).

  • Use Power Query (M) and DAX for transformations, measures, time intelligence, and RLS.

  • Manage deployment pipelines, workspace structure, refresh schedules, and dataset permissions.

  • Optimize report and dataset performance through query folding, incremental refreshes, and aggregations.

  • Establish Power BI design standards, reusable templates, and UI/UX best practices.

Data Modeling & SQL / Data Engineering Collaboration

  • Develop relational and dimensional models (star/snowflake schemas, SCDs, fact/dimension tables).

  • Write and optimize complex SQL queries (CTEs, window functions, joins, subqueries).

  • Collaborate with Data Engineers on ETL/ELT design, validation, and data lineage.

  • Ensure data integrity, traceability, and reconciliation.

Governance, Documentation & Leadership

  • Define and enforce data and reporting standards (naming conventions, version control, metric consistency).

  • Maintain documentation (data dictionaries, model diagrams, pipeline flows, BI guides).

  • Mentor junior analysts and BI developers; provide code reviews and feedback.

  • Partner cross-functionally (Finance, Ops, Product, Risk, Legal/Compliance) to gather and validate requirements.

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives — evaluate new BI capabilities, tools, and processes.

Qualifications & Skills

Ideal

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a quantitative field (Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, Statistics, etc.)

  • 5+ years of experience in analytics/BI/data roles, preferably in fintech, financial services, or operations-heavy industries

  • Deep hands-on Power BI experience (DAX, Power Query/M, Power BI Service)

  • Strong data modeling expertise (fact/dimension design, relationships, hierarchies, SCDs)

  • Expert-level SQL proficiency for data transformation and analysis

  • Experience managing or designing a semantic/metrics layer for BI

  • Experience working with diverse upstream data sources (OLTP, APIs, warehouses, files)

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with business leaders

  • Proven ability to enforce governance, documentation, and metric consistency

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Fintech, banking, payments, or lending experience

  • Familiarity with Azure Synapse, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, or similar

  • Experience with SSAS Tabular, Analysis Services, Looker, or other semantic tools

  • Exposure to Python, R, or scripting for analytics/predictive modeling

  • CI/CD or version control for BI artifacts (Azure DevOps, Git, pipelines)

  • Experience with audits, financial controls, or compliance processes

  • Familiarity with advanced Power BI / Fabric capabilities (composite models, DirectQuery, incremental refresh)

  • Prior team leadership, mentorship, or management experience in BI/analytics
