They are seeking an experienced Clinical Interoperability & Integration Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of healthcare data interfaces across our technology ecosystem. This role focuses on API integrations, HL7, FHIR, SFTP, and other interoperability standards to enable seamless data exchange between EHR systems, pharmacy platforms, insurance workflows, and prior authorization processes.

The ideal candidate will have a healthcare background, hands-on experience with EHR systems, and a strong understanding of clinical, pharmacy, and insurance workflows. This individual will perform analysis, build, testing, and implementation, collaborate with vendors, and develop processes and procedures to ensure interoperability across the healthcare continuum. Key Responsibilities
Design, Development & Implementation

  • Configure and maintain integration engines (e.g., Mirth, Rhapsody) for message routing, transformation, and validation.
  • Develop and consume FHIR resources via API endpoints, leveraging SMART on FHIR and cloud-based API gateways.
  • Perform analysis of clinical workflows to ensure accurate mapping of data across EHR, pharmacy, insurance, and prior authorization systems.
  • Create and execute test plans for interface builds and document results for audit and compliance.

Automation & Operational Efficiency

  • Apply AI and automation tools to streamline interface workflows, reduce manual processes, and improve data quality.
  • Implement real-time monitoring, alerting, and error resolution for data pipelines.
  • Automate notifications and ticketing integration with platforms like Halo, Jira, or ServiceNow.

Standards & Compliance

  • Interpret API, HL7 implementation guides, FHIR profiles, and interoperability standards.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITRUST, and other regulatory frameworks.
  • Maintain documentation for all interface builds, workflows, and processes.

Collaboration & Vendor Management

  • Work closely with internal teams (clinical, pharmacy, insurance) and external vendors to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Serve as technical liaison for vendor integrations and ensure alignment with HealthyMD’s interoperability strategy.
  • Participate in design reviews, change management, and security audits.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay current with advancements in HL7, FHIR, and interoperability best practices.
  • Explore emerging technologies for AI-driven automation and integration optimization.
  • Contribute to organizational initiatives for data quality and interoperability enhancements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Healthcare background with experience in EHR systems, pharmacy workflows, insurance, and prior authorization processes.
  • Hands-on experience with HL7, FHIR, APIs, SFTP, and integration engines (Mirth, Rhapsody).
  • Strong knowledge of interoperability standards and clinical terminologies (SNOMED, LOINC, RxNorm).
  • Familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTPS) and authentication (OAuth 2.0, OIDC).
  • Proficiency in scripting/programming (Python, SQL, JavaScript).
  • Experience with AI tools for automation and workflow optimization.
  • Excellent communication and vendor management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) and API management tools.
