We are seeking an experienced Couchbase DBA that will be responsible for managing, optimizing, and maintaining Couchbase NoSQL databases to ensure high availability, performance, and data integrity in enterprise environments.

The role focuses on ensuring high availability, performance, scalability, and security in production environments, often in cloud, hybrid, or on-premises setups (including Couchbase Capella DBaaS).

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation and Configuration: Install, configure, and set up Couchbase clusters in production, development, and testing environments, including cluster sizing, node management, and cross-datacenter replication (XDCR).

  • Proficiency in NoSQL concepts, Couchbase architecture (e.g., buckets, scopes, collections, services like Query, Index, Analytics), and query languages (N1QL/SQL-like).
  • Performance Monitoring and Tuning: Monitor database health and performance using tools like Couchbase’s built-in metrics; optimize queries, indexes, and configurations to resolve bottlenecks and ensure scalability.
  • Backup, Recovery, and Disaster Planning: Develop and implement backup/recovery strategies, perform regular backups, test disaster recovery plans, and handle data restoration to minimize downtime.
  • Security and Compliance: Manage user access, permissions, and authentication; apply security patches, and conduct audits to maintain compliance with organizational standards.
  • Troubleshooting and Maintenance: Diagnose and resolve cluster issues, perform upgrades/patches, conduct root cause analysis (RCA), and manage ongoing maintenance like node additions/replacements.
  • Perform sizing estimations, forecast growth, and scale clusters horizontally / vertically while minimizing downtime

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of overall DBA experience with 2–5+ years hands-on with Couchbase in production
  • Familiarity with relational databases like MySQL, Oracle, or PostgreSQL and relational DB design principles is required
  • Strong scripting skills in Unix/Linux shell, Python, or similar for automation and maintenance tasks.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools, performance tuning, and security protocols (e.g., SSL/TLS certificates).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, with experience in agile environments and 24/7 support for high-availability systems.
  • Enterprise-scale deployments; ability to work in fast-paced, on-call rotations. Optional requirements:
  • Experience in cloud environments (AWS, Azure) is a plus.
