Overview
The AI Governance Lead is the enterprise owner of AI governance, AI risk management, responsible AI policy, and AI lifecycle oversight. This role ensures that all artificial intelligence systems—including machine learning, predictive analytics, and generative AI—are safe, ethical, transparent, compliant, and secure. The AI Governance Lead creates and manages the AI governance framework, partners closely with cybersecurity, data, privacy, legal, data science, and platform engineering, and ensures that AI innovation happens responsibly and with proper safeguards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and maintain the enterprise AI Governance Framework, including standards, processes, and accountability for AI lifecycle oversight.
  • Develop and enforce AI-specific policies covering fairness, bias mitigation, transparency, explainability, safety, and responsible use of generative and predictive AI.
  • Lead AI risk assessments for new and existing AI systems, documenting risks, controls, and required remediation.
  • Maintain the AI Risk Register and oversee follow?up actions with model owners and engineering teams.
  • Establish governance checkpoints across the AI lifecycle, including intake, pre?build approval, validation, deployment readiness, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Oversee creation and quality of AI documentation, such as model cards, datasheets, validation reports, and monitoring plans.
  • Ensure AI systems comply with internal policies and external frameworks (e.g., NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, regulatory expectations).
  • Partner with ML/AI Engineering to embed governance requirements into pipelines, tooling, testing, and monitoring processes.
  • Collaborate with Cybersecurity and AI/Data Security teams to address model vulnerabilities, adversarial risks, and secure AI operations.
  • Work with Legal, Privacy, Compliance, HR, and Ethics to ensure AI use aligns with ethical, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support business teams in responsibly adopting AI by providing governance guidance, templates, standards, and decision frameworks.
  • Monitor deployed AI systems for model drift, degradation, fairness impacts, and compliance, and escalate issues when needed.
  • Report on AI governance posture, risks, and compliance to the Head of Data & AI and to executive or risk committees.
  • Continuously evaluate emerging AI regulations, technologies, and risks to evolve governance standards and frameworks.
  • Promote responsible AI culture through awareness, training, and education across the organization.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Data Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5+ years in AI governance, model risk management, machine learning operations, compliance, cybersecurity, or similar domains.
  • Strong understanding of AI/ML concepts, lifecycle stages, and risks.
  • xperience with governance or risk frameworks (e.g., model risk, NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001).
  • Ability to translate complex AI concepts into clear policies, standards, and guidance.
  • Skilled in cross-functional collaboration with technical, legal, compliance, and business teams.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in data science, ML engineering, AI ethics, or AI risk management.
  • Experience conducting model reviews, explainability assessments, or bias testing.
  • Familiarity with MLOps pipelines, model monitoring tools, and AI platforms.
  • Certifications in AI governance, risk, auditing, cybersecurity, or responsible AI.
