We are seeking an experienced Remote Database Operations Manager to lead a 5 to 6 person team and provide strategic direction, operational stability, and a continuous improvement mindset across our database environment.  

This is a Microsoft-first environment focused on Azure and Microsoft data platforms. We do not actively support AWS in our infrastructure.  

Responsibilities 
– Lead and mentor a team of database professionals through coaching, prioritization, and regular 1:1s 
– Drive key initiatives including migrations, upgrades, disaster recovery modernization, and monitoring improvements 
– Provide hands-on support during incidents and escalations while improving automation and reducing manual effort 
– Ensure high-quality operational documentation (runbooks, knowledge articles, and procedures) 
– Partner with cross-functional leaders on tooling and operational planning 
– Improve monitoring signal quality by reducing false positives and implementing actionable alert thresholds 
– Own and improve the ActiveBatch scheduling environment, including cleanup and documentation  

Qualifications 
– 6+ years of experience in database administration or database operations 
– Strong experience with Microsoft data platforms in Azure and hybrid environments (Azure SQL and SQL Server) 
– Experience with Azure data services such as Cosmos DB is a plus 
– Prior leadership or team lead experience, including mentoring and developing technical staff 
– Working knowledge of replication, disaster recovery, and database migration patterns 
– Experience with monitoring and scheduling tools (ActiveBatch, Redgate Monitor, or similar) is a plus 
– Strong communication skills and a process improvement mindset
