Job Description: Lead Systems Engineer
Position Type: Direct Hire
Compensation: $110,000-120,000
Location: Hybrid- Midvale, Utah
Experience Level: 5+ years experience
Overview
We’re seeking a systems and cloud engineer to serve as the primary technical resource on an internal IT team, responsible for keeping core infrastructure and cloud services secure, reliable, and scalable. This role will own day-to-day administration and continuous improvement across Microsoft 365, Azure/Entra ID, Windows Server, identity, endpoint management, virtualization, and cybersecurity controls—while partnering with internal stakeholders and third-party providers to support business continuity and user productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Windows Server and core services including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and related infrastructure.
- Support and optimize Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, and OneDrive.
- Manage endpoint administration with Intune: configuration, device compliance, patching, and standardization.
- Administer Azure / Entra ID and identity/security posture (access controls, identity strategy, and governance support).
- Maintain system availability, monitoring, backups, and disaster recovery readiness for business-critical systems.
- Implement and administer cybersecurity controls such as MFA, Conditional Access, endpoint security, and vulnerability remediation.
- Provide Tier 3 escalation support, troubleshooting complex issues and performing root-cause analysis.
- Partner with managed service providers, vendors, and internal teams to resolve incidents and deliver improvements.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures.
- Lead or contribute to infrastructure, cloud, endpoint, automation, and modernization initiatives aligned to the IT roadmap.
- Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement to increase security, scalability, and user experience.
- Success Metrics (KPIs)
- High availability, performance, and security across infrastructure, endpoints, and cloud platforms.
- Timely completion of patching, endpoint updates, access administration, and vulnerability remediation.
- Strong Tier 3 support outcomes: responsive troubleshooting, clear communication, and durable fixes.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of systems administration experience (enterprise environment preferred).
Hands-on experience with:
- Microsoft 365 (M365)
- Azure / Entra ID
- Intune
- Windows Server / Active Directory / Group Policy
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
- Preferred Skills / Experience
- PowerShell scripting and automation experience.
- Experience supporting virtualization platforms (any major stack).
- Preferred Certifications (Nice to Have)
- Microsoft Azure Administrator
- Microsoft Microsoft 365 Administrator
- CompTIA Security+
- Other relevant Microsoft/infrastructure certifications
