Job Description

Senior Network Engineer — Data Center (Cisco ACI)

Location: Charlotte, NC or Cincinnati, OH (hybrid)
Travel: ~5% (includes quarterly in-person planning sessions)
On-call: Rotational, approximately every 6–8 weeks
We’re looking for a Senior Network Engineer to join a growing team responsible for enterprise data center and network infrastructure at scale (~30,000 nodes across the environment). This role owns the design, implementation, and support of our Cisco ACI data center fabric and connects into the broader routing/switching and WAN ecosystem. You’ll bring deep technical expertise while working closely with cross-functional teams, architects, and operations to deliver reliable, secure network solutions.  This is a priority hire supporting an active team transition — we’re looking to fill this role quickly with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise network solutions across MPLS WAN, SD-WAN, Data Center, Wireless, VPN, Internet Edge, and Cellular network environments
  • Design, deploy, and troubleshoot Cisco ACI fabrics, Nexus switching platforms, Nexus Dashboard, and multi-site/multi-pod data center architectures
  • Engineer and support Cisco-based solutions including Catalyst, Nexus, ACI, SD-WAN, ISE, Secure Firewall, and cloud-connected network services
  • Lead technical design and implementation of MPLS, Segment Routing, BGP, OSPF, EVPN, VXLAN, QoS, and large-scale routing and switching environments
  • Develop and maintain network architectures, standards, reference designs, implementation guides, configuration templates, and operational documentation
  • Evaluate, test, and integrate new technologies; conduct proof-of-concepts and provide vendor recommendations
  • Develop and maintain network automation using APIs, Python, Ansible, and infrastructure-as-code methodologies, working within established automation team standards
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and root cause analysis across enterprise network environments
  • Monitor performance, capacity, availability, and user experience using telemetry and assurance platforms
  • Conduct security reviews, configuration audits, compliance validation, and quality control assessments
  • Create engineering work packages, implementation plans, migration procedures, and rollback documentation
  • Collaborate with architects, operations, cybersecurity teams, and vendors to deliver network solutions
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to standards, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Participate in after-hours maintenance and provide escalation support for critical network incidents as part of an on-call rotation

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT/Computer Science plus 5+ years of experience, including 4+ years designing and supporting Cisco Systems products — or, in lieu of a degree, 10+ years of IT experience with 5+ years on Cisco Systems products
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco ACI, Nexus platforms, and data center fabric architecture
  • Strong routing and switching background, including BGP and Segment Routing
  • Experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and network management best practices
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills — able to explain technically complex subjects clearly to both technical and business audiences
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and risk/safety awareness appropriate for operating in a critical infrastructure environment
  • Experience coordinating across multiple groups, teams, and vendors simultaneously
  • Ability to work productively with minimal direct supervision; strong organizational and time management skills
  • Adherence to formal Change Management practices
  • Willingness and ability to learn new skills and technologies

Nice to Have

  • Palo Alto firewall familiarity (routing/BGP context — not firewall policy administration)
  • CCNA or equivalent Cisco certification
  • Agile/Scrum-related certification or experience
  • Working-level Python/API automation skills
