General Overview:
The Director of Clinical Informatics role combines healthcare, technology, and data analytics expertise to drive the strategic implementation and optimization of clinical informatics solutions. The Director will oversee the integration of clinical data systems, improve patient care outcomes, and lead efforts to advance data analytics and other information systems across the organization. As the Director of Clinical Informatics, you will collaborate with clinicians, IT teams, administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure that clinical data is effectively collected, analyzed, and used to inform decision-making, enhance patient care, and support organizational goals.
General Responsibilities:
Clinical Data Management

  • Oversee the collection, analysis, and management of clinical data to improve patient outcomes and inform evidence-based practices across 400+ locations.
  • Ensure the integrity, quality, and security of clinical data across all systems and platforms.
  • Spearhead efforts to standardize and optimize data collection processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards while working with hospital partners and solution providers.

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the development and execution of the clinical informatics strategy in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Provide leadership and vision for using informatics and technology to support clinical practice and patient care delivery.
  • Guide the adoption and optimization of clinical dashboards, clinical decision support systems, and other health IT systems.
  • Collaborate with clinical leadership to identify areas for informatics innovation and improvement.
  • Manage a team of analysts to support the clinical informatics program.

Technology Integration & Optimization

  • Work closely with IT teams to ensure clinical systems are optimized, user-friendly, and meet the needs of clinicians and patients.
  • Lead the integration of new clinical technologies, software, and tools to enhance workflows and clinical efficiency.
  • Drive ongoing improvements in the functionality and performance of EHRs, clinical data systems, and other informatics platforms.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including clinical teams and business units, to gather, analyze, and document detailed requirements for system enhancements and new data quality initiatives.
  • Work closely with IT to translate business requirements into technical specifications, ensuring clarity, feasibility, and alignment with the project objectives.
  • Act as a liaison between clinical stakeholders and IT teams throughout the enhancement lifecycle, including design, testing, deployment, and post-implementation review, to ensure accurate delivery of requirements.

Education and Support

  • Develop and deliver training programs, user guides, and education materials to support end-users in understanding new system enhancements, workflows, and data quality standards
  • Provide one-on-one or group coaching to users, addressing questions and ensuring a thorough understanding of system capabilities and updates
  • Serve as a resource for users by offering ongoing education and support, gathering feedback to identify areas for further training or system improvement
  • Act as a subject matter expert on clinical data quality, providing support and advice to staff and leadership when data-related issues arise.
  • Foster collaboration between clinical, IT, and administrative teams to ensure seamless implementation and use of informatics solutions.
  • Develop and present regular reports on clinical informatics initiatives, progress, and outcomes to senior leadership.

Compliance & Standards

  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH Act) and industry best practices in the management and use of clinical data.
  • Assist in developing and enforcing policies and procedures related to clinical data management and quality assurance. Stay informed about changes in healthcare regulations and best practices in clinical data management to ensure compliance and best-in-class data quality standards.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance clinical data workflows and data quality processes.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage new technologies, tools, and methodologies to improve the accuracy and quality of clinical data

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of clinical informatics standards, tools, and best practices.
  • Ability to think strategically while maintaining a focus on operational efficiency and quality care.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a collaborative approach to resolving issues.
  • Proficiency in data analytics and reporting tools; ability to derive actionable insights from complex clinical data.
  • Ability to make decisions that are well-informed and timely.
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, managing several concurrent projects and priorities at a time, prioritizing effectively, and work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal, project management, and mentoring skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with senior leadership and other stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of data governance principles, data validation processes, and quality control standards.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to detect and resolve data discrepancies.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing, Public Health, Business, or a related field
  • Master’s degree in Healthcare Informatics a plus, but not required
  • Certified Health Data Analyst (CHDA) or Certification in Health Information Management (CPHIMS, RHIA, RHIT) a plus, but not required
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in healthcare informatics, with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a healthcare data-related role, preferably with experience in clinical data management, data quality assurance, or health informatics.
  • Experience with healthcare data standards (e.g., ICD-10, SNOMED, HL7), MACRA, and MIPS.
