L3 Application Support Engineer (Snowflake / Data Platform)
Location: Charlotte preferred; open to remote
Type: Contract-to-Hire (Remote)
Duration: 12 months
Flexibility: Occasional off-hours support early in ramp period

Role Overview
This is an L3 production support and data platform engineering hybrid role supporting Snowflake and supply-chain data systems. You will support critical data pipelines powering enterprise transactional and reporting systems. The function sits between engineering and operations — requiring strong troubleshooting, SQL expertise, and data platform experience.
The environment is migrating legacy SQL Server / SSIS pipelines to Snowflake, dbt, and Airflow. You will investigate failed nightly jobs, troubleshoot broken data pipelines, validate datasets, and trigger job reruns while collaborating with offshore support and development teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide L3 run support for Snowflake data pipelines and AXIOM supply-chain systems
• Investigate & resolve failed nightly batch jobs, ingestion issues, and missing data
• Validate tables, views, and data lineage in Snowflake
• Review logs, job history, and pipeline dependencies (Airflow / dbt / Fivetran)
• Debug SQL and ETL errors, perform data validation & manual refreshes when needed
• Proactively monitor and tune platform performance and job reliability
• Partner with offshore team and Infosys to resolve incidents
• Participate in production support rotations and escalations
• Work with engineering to improve automation & observability
• Think ahead on data scaling, performance, and refresh windows

Must-Have Skills
Hands-on technical experience:

• Snowflake (querying, monitoring query history, data validation, tasks/schedulers) OR strong Cloud Data
• SQL (write, debug, optimize) — strong SQL required
• Airflow (DAG dependencies, retries, scheduling, manual triggers) +
• dbt (models, structure, debugging transformation errors)+
• Fivetran (connector monitoring, log review, manual refreshes)+

General support competencies:

• Application support (L3) for data platforms
• Root cause analysis and incident remediation
• Log analysis & batch job debugging
• Understanding nightly job orchestration and data refresh cadence

Representative Support Scenarios

• Nightly batch fails ? identify root cause ? fix code or re-run job
• Blank table in Snowflake ? trace data lineage & ingestion path
• Fivetran connector paused/error ? review logs & retrigger sync
• dbt model fails ? debug SQL, logs, dependencies
• Airflow DAG broken ? inspect, fix sequencing, restart job
• Data volume increases ? evaluate performance and refresh windows

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Data platform support background (Snowflake preferred)
• Hybrid mindset: SRE + Data Engineer
• Strong SQL troubleshooting AND pipeline execution experience
• Experience in cloud data lake environments
• Thinks proactively about automation, scaling, and reliability
• Able to dive into logs, platform tools, and job schedulers independently
