Senior Power BI Engineer – D365 Finance & Operations
Location: Remote
Contract

Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Power BI Engineer to design and deliver high-impact operational dashboards leveraging Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365 F&O) data. This individual will serve as the Power BI subject matter expert within a team that has strong D365 functional expertise but limited in-house Power BI engineering capability.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on building scalable semantic models, ensuring data accuracy and reconciliation, implementing governance standards, and delivering performance-optimized reporting solutions for Finance and Operations stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities
Power BI Engineering & Delivery

  • Design and develop scalable semantic models sourced from D365 F&O data
  • Build operational dashboards and reports for Finance, Supply Chain, and Operations
  • Develop advanced DAX measures, including financial logic and time intelligence
  • Implement star schema data models optimized for performance and usability
  • Configure dataset refresh strategies and optimize performance
  • Implement Row-Level Security (RLS) aligned with ERP access requirements
  • Establish Power BI development standards and best practices

D365 ERP Reporting Alignment

  • Partner with D365 functional SMEs to understand Finance and SCM processes
  • Translate D365 data entities and tables into reporting-ready data models
  • Validate report outputs against transactional ERP data to ensure reconciliation and accuracy
  • Support reporting across modules including:
    • General Ledger
    • Accounts Payable / Accounts Receivable
    • Fixed Assets
    • Procurement & Sourcing
    • Inventory Management
    • Warehouse Management

Governance & Standards

  • Build reusable data models and standardized reporting frameworks
  • Ensure secure deployment through Power BI Service and deployment pipelines
  • Document data models, calculations, and report logic
  • Support compliance and control requirements (e.g., SOX alignment)

Required Qualifications

  • 5–8+ years of Power BI development experience
  • Advanced expertise in:
    • DAX (complex measures, financial logic, time intelligence)
    • Dimensional modeling (star schema design)
    • Dataset performance optimization
    • Incremental refresh and modeling best practices
  • Strong SQL skills
  • Experience building reports from ERP systems (D365 F&O strongly preferred)
  • Solid understanding of financial and/or supply chain reporting
  • Ability to independently gather requirements and deliver production-ready dashboards

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with D365 F&O data (Export to Data Lake, Synapse, Azure SQL)
  • Experience in Finance or Supply Chain reporting environments
  • Enterprise-level Row-Level Security implementation experience
  • Exposure to Azure data services
  • Experience in regulated or SOX-controlled environments

What Success Looks Like in the First 6 Months

  • Deliver critical operational dashboards for Finance and Supply Chain
  • Establish standardized Power BI modeling and governance practices
  • Ensure ERP-to-report reconciliation and data accuracy
  • Enable internal teams with reusable, scalable reporting frameworks
