Job Title: Command Center Coach (Principal Continuous Improvement Consultant)

Location: Oakland, CA (Hybrid)

Employment Type: Contract with opportunity to convert (12-Month Initial Duration)

Pay Range: $85

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Continuous Improvement / Operational Excellence consultant to support a large enterprise transformation initiative focused on command centers, visual management, KPI governance, and operational problem solving.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex organizations and has experience coaching leadership teams through Lean operational practices, visual management routines, and cross-functional performance improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate will combine strong operational excellence expertise with exceptional communication and facilitation skills. This person must be able to simplify Lean concepts for business stakeholders and coach teams toward operational maturity rather than acting as a purely tactical contributor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coach leadership teams on visual management and operational excellence practices

  • Support command center maturity and operational governance routines

  • Facilitate monthly operating review (MOR) processes and KPI discussions

  • Coach teams through A3 problem solving and root cause analysis

  • Support KPI governance, KPI trees, and operational performance tracking

  • Conduct command center assessments and maturity evaluations

  • Revise and improve operational standards, assessments, and Lean documentation

  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and operational alignment

  • Help teams become self-sufficient in Lean operating routines and problem solving

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in Lean, Continuous Improvement, Operational Excellence, or related consulting environments

  • Strong experience with visual management and KPI governance

  • Experience facilitating or supporting operational reviews / performance management routines

  • Experience coaching director-level and executive stakeholders

  • Strong understanding of A3 problem solving and structured operational thinking

  • Experience working within large, matrixed enterprise organizations

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong facilitation and stakeholder management capabilities

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting command centers or operational performance centers

  • Experience revising standards, maturity models, and operational assessments

  • Utility, manufacturing, energy, or large-enterprise operational experience

  • Lean / Six Sigma certification preferred but not required

Work Environment

  • Hybrid work environment

  • Typically onsite 2–3 days per week in Oakland, CA

  • Some Tuesday and Wednesday onsite requirements tied to operating reviews and collaboration sessions

Compensation

Competitive hourly rate based on experience.
