Project Manager

Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Coachella Valley, CA

We’re partnering with a leading not-for-profit health system in the Coachella Valley to hire an IT Project Manager II for their IT PMO. The health system is investing heavily in its IT organization over the next two years, and this hire is part of that growth: the PMO currently runs with two full-time project managers plus a contractor, and is on track to grow to four or five people over the next year.

The PMO is still small, and its processes are intentionally lightweight rather than rigid. The organization has grown by staying fluid, and leadership wants to keep that trait even as they add more structure. This role is meant for someone who wants to help shape how the PMO plans and prioritizes work, not just execute an existing playbook.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead 2–4 small-to-medium IT projects at a time through their full lifecycle, including planning, resourcing, vendor management, and status reporting, using traditional Waterfall delivery (this team does not run Agile or Scrum).

  • Work across different parts of the organization, including Epic, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and others, often shifting between project types from one week to the next rather than staying in one lane.

  • Manage vendor relationships and cross-team coordination: setting expectations, understanding resource capacity, and having direct, adult conversations to keep projects on track.

  • Contribute to a growing pipeline of initiatives, which currently includes new Epic modules, IT build-out for new patient-care buildings opening in 2027, a major 340B pharmacy initiative, a Microsoft 365/Teams modernization rollout, and emerging agentic AI projects both inside and outside Epic.

  • Spend roughly 20% of your time on PMO administrative work: project reporting, project intake, and helping shape PMO policies and procedures as the team matures.

  • Ramp up over your first year: expect a couple of smaller “get oriented” projects in month one, building toward 3–4 concurrent small-to-medium projects by year’s end.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, or four (4) additional years of applicable experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Active PMP certification: this is a hard requirement, not something you can be working toward.

  • Five (5) years of overall project management experience. Healthcare experience is a plus but not required at this level; PM experience from another industry, paired with an active PMP, is workable, especially for local candidates.

  • Comfortable running exclusively Waterfall project delivery. This is not an Agile/Scrum shop, and a strong preference for Agile-only work is not a fit.

  • Able to work mostly onsite to start. More remote flexibility opens up over time, especially with tenure and healthcare-specific experience; full remote isn’t available at this level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare IT project management experience.

  • Experience delivering Epic-related, infrastructure, or other cross-functional IT projects.

  • Comfort working in a still-maturing PMO environment, with genuine interest in helping build out its processes.

What We’re Looking For

This role has less to do with any one technical specialty and more to do with range and adaptability. Project managers here move between different types of work (an Epic initiative one week, infrastructure or cybersecurity the next) and carry 2 to 4 projects at a time rather than going deep on just one. Someone who has thrived mainly in rigid, highly structured PMO environments, or who only wants to work in Agile/Scrum, historically hasn’t been a fit here. We’re looking for someone who’s autonomous, ramps up quickly, and genuinely enjoys variety and a still-evolving process, not just someone who can run a clean status report.
