The Changing IT Hiring Landscape
Hiring IT talent has always required a thoughtful approach. But as technology roles continue to evolve and competition for skilled professionals increases, many organizations are re-evaluating how they attract, engage, and hire top talent.
The gap between hiring strategies and candidate expectations has become a growing focus. Lengthy processes, unclear communication, and misaligned expectations can impact the candidate experience, while also making it more difficult for companies to secure the right talent.
We recently ran a series of polls to better understand where challenges are showing up in today’s IT staffing landscape. The results highlight common candidate preferences and areas where hiring processes can continue to evolve.
The Challenge of Application Follow-Up
We asked our network about the most frustrating part of the job search process. A majority identified a lack of feedback after applying as their biggest challenge, while 24% pointed to limited communication after interviews.
When we looked at response timelines, the results showed a similar trend. Half of respondents said they do not typically hear back after submitting an application, while only 13% reported receiving a response within a week.

Providing individual feedback to every applicant can be challenging, especially for roles with high application volumes. However, clear communication throughout the process can help candidates better understand where they stand while creating a stronger overall hiring experience.
Finding the Right Balance in Interviews
Interview processes are designed to help companies evaluate skills, experience, and fit. However, the ideal number of interview rounds can vary depending on the role and level of the position.
According to our poll, 44% of respondents felt that more than three rounds was too many, while 40% preferred a process with two rounds or fewer.

For many technology roles, a streamlined interview process can help organizations make decisions efficiently while keeping strong candidates engaged. Creating a process that gathers the right information without unnecessary delays can benefit both hiring teams and candidates.
Aligning Expectations Before the Offer Stage
Receiving an offer is an important milestone, but maintaining alignment throughout the hiring process plays a key role in making that moment successful.
When asked what can impact excitement around a job offer, 46% of respondents cited salary below expectations, while 29% pointed to a lack of remote flexibility.

Clear conversations around compensation, workplace expectations, and role responsibilities early in the process can help ensure alignment and reduce surprises later on.
Creating a Better Path Forward
The organizations successfully hiring today are those focused on clarity, efficiency, and strong communication throughout the process.
By setting expectations early, creating a streamlined interview experience, and maintaining transparency, companies can build stronger relationships with candidates and improve their ability to attract in-demand IT talent.
