Insights from Gravity’s LinkedIn Polls on Tech Hiring Trends and Challenges in 2024
Each month on LinkedIn, we facilitate a series of LinkedIn polls to gauge the current state of a popular topic amongst our customers and industry. This month featured survey questions around tech hiring, the challenges companies face, and the strategies they employ to source top talent. The results provide valuable insights into the ever-evolving landscape of tech recruitment and in this case, how Gravity’s staffing services and hiring models can help organizations navigate these challenges.
Tech Hiring Challenges in 2024
Our first poll revealed that the biggest challenge companies faced in tech hiring this year was adapting to remote and hybrid work environments (35%), followed by employee retention (24%), finding candidates with the right technical skills (23%), and the competitive talent market (18%). These findings underscore the need for flexible and innovative hiring solutions that can help companies attract and retain the best tech talent in a rapidly changing world.
Prioritizing Tech Roles
When asked about the tech roles companies are prioritizing in 2024, data scientists and data analysts topped the list (29%), closely followed by AI/ML engineers (27%), cybersecurity specialists (23%), and full-stack developers (21%). This highlights the growing importance of data-driven decision-making and the need for robust AI and cybersecurity capabilities in today’s digital landscape.
Tech Hiring Budgets
Interestingly, despite the high demand for tech talent, 51% of respondents indicated that their tech hiring budgets had decreased slightly compared to 2023. Only 21% reported an increase in their budgets, while 29% said their budgets remained the same. This suggests that companies are looking for cost-effective solutions to meet their tech hiring needs without compromising on quality.
Sourcing Tech Talent
Our final poll for May explored the primary ways companies are sourcing tech talent in 2024. Internal referrals and networking emerged as the most popular method (39%), followed closely by posting on job boards (37%). Partnering with staffing firms came in third at 24%, while attending job fairs received no votes. This underscores the importance of leveraging existing networks and specialized recruitment services to find the best tech talent in a competitive market.
